Thousand Island Tower
We decided to stop at the Thousand Island Tower, mainly because I love being way high up and seeing the world from a different perspective, and I think it’s good to show the children things from a different perspective. The tower gives 360 degree views of the St. Lawrence River, New York, and Thousand Islands, Ontario from 400’ high.
The building and tower itself are unremarkable, but the views from the open air-top and the enclosed observation deck right below are breathtaking. The pictures don’t do it justice. (Maybe I need to take a photography course!)
The children liked looking at all the ant-sized houses and buildings. There was an active construction site when we visited, so seeing mini excavators was interesting for Danny.
One of the more interesting points for me was the international border. We could see the cars lined up to enter and exit the US and Canada.
Our children skipped all the posted information and were “done” in about 30 minutes, but someone who wanted to read all the signs, look at the maps, and page through the books could spend an hour or two. There was also a very nice guide who was happy to share his information about the area, and he clearly knew what he was talking about.
