“Home” for the weekend was Mima’s and Ed’s house, so we decided to take advantage of their proximity to LEGOLAND. We didn’t tell the children what kind of adventure the day would bring… they guessed all kinds of things, but not Legoland.

The lego city of Philadelphia was incredible. We loved looking at all the details and seeing how many hours each part took to build. The children also loved the Ninjago section. They liked the builds and tried the ninja training course several times.

We took the building class, which was neat, but the best part was sticking around after class to talk to the instructor. He showed us the Master Builder’s room and let us handle some special builds, including the weapons below.

We saw two of the 4D movies. They were fun, but once you see one, you know all the tricks and the second (or 3rd) isn’t as fun. Then we spent the rest of our time building. The boys built vehicles and sets, and Maria checked out the Friends section but spent most of her time at the stop-motion movie station. She was so inspired! She set herself up at home with a table, tripod and GoPro and has made several movies!

Overall, Legoland was a lot of fun… probably mostly because we went on a Tuesday morning, so we had the place almost to ourselves. I’m so happy we made these memories with Mima, and the children already asked if we could take her back to Legoland someday.

Tips if you go:

  1. Skip the $5 add-on minifigure. This is just a randomized minifigure- our 3 samples had a strange mix of parts, and looked like someone put them together without looking at the parts. Our children had much more fun at the build a minifigure stand in the gift shop.

  2. The Activity Pack is a little booklet with mini-games (like mazes) and the “stamps” you collect are embossed and hard to see. We had a hard time finding all the stamp sites. No one wanted to wear it around their necks, so it ended up in my purse. I wouldn’t recommend this.

  3. As with all places, go early!
